Disinfection by Fumigation of Peracetic Acid

Peracetic acid (PAA) solution is highly germicidal against all of the microorganisms. It can also be used as germicidal fumigant in the airtight room. In the experiment, PAA solution contained in an enamel pot was boiled on a hot plate to produce the germicidal vapour. Under the condition of 15℃, RH70-80%, the dosage of PAA for killing 99.9% of Staphylococcus albus, poliovirus and inactivating 99.9% of botulin was 1g/m~3 for 60 minutes, and the dosage for killing the spore of Bacillus cereus was 3 g/m~3 for 90 minutes exposure under the same condition.Caution must be exercised in using the compound. The vapour has bleaching action and is corrosive to some metals, especially steel and copper. It is slightly corrosive to stainless steel, aluminum and cotton textile.
