Abstract: | OBJECTIVES: The frequency of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection was estimated among pregnant women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cervical smears were obtained from 50 patients treated in the Chair and Department of Obstetrics and Perinatology, University Medical School of Lublin. They were investigated for the presence of HPV DNA. For the above purpose Digene Hybrid Capture method was used. RESULTS: HPV DNA was detected in the 4 (8%) of 50 patients. One of them had mixed infection low and high risk types of HPV, the other--high risk types of HPV infections. CONCLUSIONS: 1. HPV DNA was detected in 8% of the patients, in all cases high risk types of HPV was found. 2. The diabetic patients seem to be more vulnerable to HPV infection during pregnancy. |
