Abstract:The authors discuss the current uncertainty regarding etiology, treatment, and classification of developmental language disorders (DLD). Referring to previous reports in the literature, they propose a specific subclass of DLD associated with a hypothesized dysfunction of the dopaminergic system of the basal ganglia. Mechanisms of dysfunction and treatment implications are discussed.
