Bacterial pericarditis caused by Lactobacillus iners in an infant |

| Abstract: | We report the case of a 6-month-old male infant with bacterial pericarditis due to Lactobacillus iners. Although the culture of pericardial fluid was negative, L. iners was identified by 16S rRNA gene amplification by polymerase chain reaction and a subsequent sequence analysis. This weakly pathogenic bacterium could develop a severe infection in infants. |
