Discourse Analysis on the Spread of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Overseas Based on a Corpus

Based on a large online corpus,this paper analyzes,through the approach of critical discourse analysis,the actual situation and problems of the spread of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) culture overseas on global English online media.We found that the overseas spread of TCM culture is popular in China but less popular in other countries,and it’s active on the senders’ side but passive on the receivers’ side;the hotpots of the spread of TCM culture overseas are Singapore,America,Canada,Britain,India,etc.,and hot topics are healthcare,clinical effect and prevention and treatment of COVID-19,etc.;the English media hold positive attitudes towards acupuncture,moxibustion and cupping,but doubt the scientificity and clinical effects of TCM,and they reproach that the production of herbal medicine ruins the ecosystem.Thus,in order to form a positive image of TCM culture and publicize it overseas,we should,with the help of national policies,construct a platform for publicizing TCM culture,provide suggestions for the communication discourse and tailor the receiver-oriented communication discourse system.
