The application of transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative analgesia in abdominal surgery

Background The transversus abdominis plane （TAP） block is a newly developed regional anesthetic technique over the past few decades,which can reduce postoperative opioid requirements and opioid related side effects,and finally improve the total satisfaction degree of patients.Objective To introduce TAP block technique and discuss the future perspectives on the use of TAP block for postoperative analgesia in abdominal surgery.Content Review of the TAP block technique,including the relevant anatomy,operation methods,clinical effects,complications,unsolved problems as well as the suggestions for future clinical research and application.Trend The TAP block technique has been confirmed to be safe,effective,and very promising for future use as part of a multimodal analgesic regimen for postoperative analgesia in abdominal surgery.
