Abstract:Objective To study the etching effect of enamel surface irradiated by Er:YAG laser,and compare it with the effect of acid etching.Methods A total of 40 complete isolated human premolars were chosen and were randomly divided into four groups of 10 teeth each at Shanxi Medical University from April 2010 to July 2010.Acid group(35% phosphoric acid),Er:YAG laser group(5Hz,100mJ,0.5W),acid etching+ Er:YAG laser group,Er:YAG laser+acid etching group.Respectively conduct the etching treatment on enamel surface,light-cured composite resin bonding and the shear strength test.Results Acid+Er:YAG laser group got the highest shear strength value(16.0±4.2)MPa,compared with other groups the difference was statistically significant(P 0.05);Er:YAG laser+acid group got the lowest shear strength value[(7.1±2.9)MPa],compared with other groups the difference was statistically significant(P 0.05);the value of the shear strength of acid group[(11.3±5.7)MPa] and the Er:YAG laser group[(10.3±4.6)MPa] were in middle,which had similar results,and the two had no statistically significant difference by comparison(P 0.05).Conclusion Er:YAG laser etching can achieve similar shear strength to acid;acid etching with Er:YAG laser irradiation can improve the shear strength to some extent.
