Abstract:Fourteen rabbits with spinal cord injury applied by improved Allen's method were randomized and divided into two groups.Saline,methylprednisolone were given respectively.The results demonstrated : comparing with control group. LPO decreased markedly in treatment group. The histopathological studies in control group showed an injured alteration, with less change in the treatment group. The recovery of amplitude of MEP in control group was less than that of the treatment group. The latency in control group was longer than that of the treatment group. This study implied that lipid peroxidation induced by oxygen free radicals may play an important role in the secondary impairment of the spinal cord injury. High-dose methylprednisolone could inhibit lipid peroxidation,alleviate distory of tissue construction,and ameliorate function of nerve conduction. So it could be considered to have protective effect on experimental spinal cord in jury,and also provide theoretical evidence for clinical treatment of spinal cord injury.
