中医药在中国已有五千年以上的历史。约在公元六世纪就传向亚洲,17世纪随天主传教士流传西方。因此,中医药不仅为中华民族的繁衍昌盛作出了巨大贡献,而且也对各国人民的医疗保健有着不可磨灭的功劳。即使在今天，约有总人口三分之一的人们也是在用中医药治疾疗伤和养生护体。中医药蕴藏着丰富的学术内涵和辉煌前景。但基于英国经验，中医药面临着“诸子蜂起，百家争鸣”的国际医药保健时代，处于有机会又有曲折的局面。中医药在英国的发展将会是中医国际化的长征前奏。
