| Abstract: | It is not surprising that severely injured individuals often die. But it may be surprising that many such deaths (not involving brain injury) are due to sepsis correlated with immunodeficiency. Severe, multicentric immune defects, associated with multiple trauma injury, surgery and major burns undoubtedly contribute to the increased risk of sepsis. The nature, causes and potential therapy of trauma-associated immunologic defects were the subjects of a recent international congress, involving clinicians, clinical researchers and basic scientists. |
