Abstract:In order to study the morphology and distribution of the projecting neurons from the spinal cord to the subnucleusreticularis dorsalis (SRD) in medulla and the relationship between the projecting neurons and SP,the fluorogold(FG)and SP receptor immunohistochemical double-labeling method were used following electrophoretic injection of FG into SRD of the rat. Theresults showed that the neurons labeled retrogradely with FG were mainly localized in ipsilateral laminae Ⅲ.~ and, especially in laminae and , a few labeling neurons were detected on contralateral side. In lamina , the percentage of neuronsdouble labeled with FG and SP receptor was about 35% of FG immunoreactive neurons. In laminae ~, the percentage ofdouble labeled neurons was about 20%. The results suggested thai SP released from primary afferent fibers could directly act onthe SRD projecting neurons of the above mentioned laminae.
