Advance in clinical research of paliperidone palmitate

Paliperdone palmitate is a new long-acting antipsychotic injection for the treatment of schizophrenia.Paliperidone,also called 9-hydroxyriperidone,is the major active metabolite of risperidone and acts at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors.By the NanoCrystal technology,the insoluble compound of the depot has been developed,making the drug use safer and more effective.Paliperidone palmitate has been shown to be effective in acute schizophrenia,and it is also effective as maintenance therapy in paliperidone-treated patients compared with placebo.Overall,paliperidone palmitate may have advantages over other currently available long-acting injections,and therefore may be a useful alternative for the treatment of schizophrenia.
