医学生临床学习阶段医学英语教学的实践

摘    要:目的探讨如何在临床学习阶段加强医学生的医学专业英语学习。方法在医学生第四年级的教学计划中,安排62学时医学专业英语课堂教学。采取大班授课方式,每学年学生在40人左右。选择“风暴式医学教程”(Mosby’s Crash Course)系列教程中的《儿科学》(Pediatric)作为教材。同时,采用美国Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics第16版的部分章节作为师生课外选读教材。采用多媒体、情景对话等方式进行教学,以专业词汇为中心,加强词缀和构词法的学习,结合医学文献阅读,通过视觉和听觉映象的强化帮助记忆,通过角色演练学习英语习惯表达方法。学期结束时。对学生进行问卷调查和英语测验。结果调查结果显示,87%的学生认可此种多媒体技术结合情境教学,师生、学生之间多向交流的教学方式;92%的学生认为对儿科学专业英语学习有所帮助;58%的学生认为医学专业单词是学习的难点;63%的学生认为教师讲解重要词汇,并介绍词缀和构词法有助于记忆和扩充词汇量;58%的学生认为多媒体授课方式容易接受。结论开设医学专业英语课程十分必要。学生对专业英语教材结合相关文献学习,以及采用多媒体教学的方式和效果有较高的认可率。通过加强专业词汇和习惯表达方式的教学,有助于提高学生的医学专业英语水平。

Abstract:Objective With the growing international exchanges and cooperation, doctors in the future need to have comprehensive medical English listening, speaking, writing and translation capabili-ties. This paper aims to find out the effective ways to help medical students to improve professional English at their clinical study phase. Methods The professional English course starts at the fourth year for medi-cal students, totaling 62 hours each year. The number of students in one class ranges from 38 to 42. The Mosby' s Crash Course, a series of tutorials in the "Pediatrics" is used as the teaching textbook. In addi-tion, some chapters of "Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics" are also adopted as the extra-reading materials. Teachers teach professional vocabulary with the help of multimedia. Special attention is given to affixes and word-building. The students are required to do role play, and extra reading material may help them en-hance English learning abilities. Results The result of survey shows that 87% of the students accept this teaching method; 92% of them claim the English class being helpful; 58% of the students think the profes-sional medical terms are difficult to master; 63% of the students believe that teaching affixation helps to ex-pand vocabulary; and 58% of the students find it easier to learn English after the adoption of the multi-media teaching methods. Conclusions To start efficient professional English course in clinical study phase is necessary for medical students. The use of multi-media teaching methods is highly recommendable and appreciated by students. By focusing on the expansion of professional vocabulary with more reading materi-als, the medical students can improve their medical English level.
