Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of seminar method combined with case-based learning(CBL)teaching mode in periodontal internship.Methods The control group consisted of 27 students admitted in 2013 which received conventional teaching.The experimental group consisted of 25 students admitted in 2014.The students from experimental group received periodontal internship education employing seminar method combined with CBL teaching mode.Teaching effectiveness was evaluated by comparing examination scores,critical thinking and learning ability scores from all students after periodontal internship.The t test and chi-square test were used to analyze the difference between two groups using SPSS software.Results The experimental group had significantly higher examination scores and feedback values on the teaching effect than the control group(P<0.05).In addition,the total score of critical thinking ability in the experimental group after internship was higher than before(300.9 vs 284.2,t=2.655,P=0.011).The total score in the experimental group was higher than control group after internship(300.9 vs 288.7,t=2.025,P=0.048).There was significant difference in experiment group concerning seven aspects about teaching assessment comparing with control group(P<0.05).Conclusions Seminar method combined with CBL teaching mode can active the learning interest and enthusiasm of stomatology undergraduates.It can improve the academic achievement,practice and thinking abilities of the students and help teachers to innovate teaching ideas together with improving their teaching ability and quality.
