| Abstract: | Although fine needle aspiration cytology has been widely used in the diagnosis of thyroidnodule,there are still some limitations,including high rate nondiagnostic or unsatisfactory cytology and un-certain cytological results.Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy(CNB)has been regarded as a safe and ef-fective alternation.Currently,a pathology reporting system of thyroid core needle biopsy has been estab-lished for reporting thyroid CNB results.More studies have identified the diagnostic value of CNB since it re-duced the rate of nondiagnostic/unsatisfactory or indeterminate cytology,therefore improved the diagnosis ac-curacy of thyroid nodule.Meanwhile,accumulated evidence has demonstrated that CNB is well tolerated andrelatively safe for most patients due to its low rate of major and minor complications. |
