Abstract:Blood gases were determined after an intravenous injection of soman (10 mg·L-1) to dogs. It was found that blood PaO2, SaO2 and PaCO2 were significantly decreased at a simulated high altitude of 4 km compared with those at sea level. These findings indicate that the blood gas changes can be served as indicators of soman induced disturbance of pulmonary function at high altitudes and may play an important role in the mechanism responsible for the development of pulmonary edema.
