Endometrial receptivity as the key of embryo implantation

Currently,repeated implantation failure is a serious challenge in the assisted reproductive technology. It is mainly caused by embryonic chromosomal abnormalities and endometrial receptivity destruction. However,in the case of sound endometrium, abnormal embryos can implant successfully, which indicates that endometrial receptivity plays an important role in the process of embryo implantation. The mechanism of establishment of endometrial receptivity is extremely complex,and it is influenced by ovarian hormones,adjusted by adhesion molecules and cytokines secreted by endometrium and embryo. This article reviews the details of embryo implantation process, endometrial receptivity from the point of view of adjustment mechanism, clinical evaluation, and method improvement to reveal the role of endometrial receptivity in embryo implantation failure.
