Cationic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran initiated by multifunctional initiators

A series of multifunctional cationic initiators was synthesized from 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene and from methylbenzenes by the Wohl-Ziegler reaction with N-bromosuccinimid. The initiators were treated with silver perchlorate to prepare star-shaped polytetrahydrofurans with three to six arms.
