Steroid biosynthesis by phalarope (Steganopus tricolor and Lobipes lobatus) adrenal tissue

Phalarope (Steganopus tricolor and Lobipes lobatus) adrenal tissue homogenates incubated with pregnenolone-4-¹⁴C formed primarily ¹⁴C-labeled progesterone, 11-deoxycorticosterone, and corticosterone. Formation of radioactive dehydroepiandrosterone, testosterone, or androstenedione was not detected. No differences with regard to the products formed or the time course of their formation were observed between adrenal tissue from male and female phalaropes.
