High-frequency ultrasonic examination methods of upper normal arm muscle groups and manifestations of common abnormalities

Objective To investigate high-frequency ultrasound examination methods of upper arm muscle groups in normal adults and manifestations of common abnormalities. Methods Sixty upper arm muscle groups in 30 normal adults were examined with high-frequency ultrasound. The ultrasonic characteristics and examinational methods of upper arm muscle groups in normal adults were analyzed. Meanwhile, the ultrasonic findings of 9 patients with upper arm abnormalities were described and recorded. Results Taking bones, vascellums and nerves as the anatomic landmarks, the examinational methods and adjoining relationships of the bones, vascellums, nerves surrounding upper arm muscle groups in normal adults were illuminated in detail. The ultrasonic findings of upper arms with common diseases were recorded. Conclusion High-frequency ultrasound can display upper arm muscle groups clearly in normal adults. It can be used as the first choice for detecting upper arm diseases.
