Abstract: | The emulsion polymerization of 1,4-divinylbenzene with sodium dodecylsulfate as emulsifier and potassium persulfate as initiator was studied to obtain reactive microgels with different sizes. Comparing the results of the emulsion polymerization of 1,4-divinylbenzene with that of styrene specific differences were found as formation of coagulum, several agglomeration stages, and considerably higher numbers of particles in case of 1,4-divinylbenzene. The possible reasons for these characteristic differences are discussed. |
