STUDY OF COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT AND NEGATIVE EMOTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACKS

Objective To study cognitive impairment and negative emotions in patients with transient ischemic attacks(TIA). Methods Cognitive function and negative emotions were assessed in 56 TIA patients and 60 healthy controls.Cognitive function was assessed using Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA) and Mini-mental State Examination(MMSE);negative emotions were tested by self-rating depression scale(SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale(SAS). Results Scores of MoCA,MMSE,SDS and SAS in the TIA group were significantly lower than that in the control group(t=4.621-10.454,P<0.01).MoCA subitems such as space/ executive function score,naming score,delayed memory score of the TIA group were significantly lower than that of the control group(t=1.985-2.778,P<0.05);MMSE subitems such as attention,calculation ability,and linguistic capacity were significantly lower than that of the control group(t=4.419,4.156;P<0.01).In the aspect of inspection of cognitive disorder of TIA patients,the sensitivity of MoCA was obviously higher than that of MMSE(χ2=6.423,P<0.05). ConclusionA different extent of cognitive disorder and negative emotions exist in TIA patients,as a tool for cognitive impairment screening,MoCA is superior to MMSE.
