Breast Biopsy by the Mammotome Vacuum-assisted Breast Biopsy System

This article aims to introduce the ultrasound guided as well as the Mammotome vacuum assisted breast biopsy system, its indications and contraindications, its instruments and its operational procedures. The comparison of the values of Mammotome biopsy with core needle biopsy and conventional open surgical biopsy on suspicious breast lesions is presented. The authors' conclusion is that the Mammotome breast biopsy system has been proven to be the most advanced technique because of its simplicity, shorter time, high accuracy and minimally invasiveness. Also this method can be used to perform the lumpectomy of small benign breast tumors.
