| Abstract: | We have developed a novel contrast agent, ytterbium-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Yb-DTPA), for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and its mechanism of action is predominantly by the susceptibility mechanism. We have applied this contrast agent for renal MRI studies. We also demonstrate that Yb-DTPA has a renal clearance similar to that of inulin in rats and may therefore be useful for the estimation of glomerular filtration rate. |
