Clinical Significance of Determination the Changes of Serum Hcy,CEA and VEGF Levels After Operation in Patients with Esophageal Cancer

Objective To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum Hcy,CEA and VEGF levels both before and after operation in patients with esophageal cancer.Methods Serum Hcy(with immuno chemistry),CEA(with RIA),VEGF(with ELISA) levels were determined in 31 patients with esophageal cancer as well as in 35 controls.Results Before operation.Serum Hcy,CEA and VEGF levels in the patients were significantly higher than those in controls(P<0.01),after operation in 26 cases without recurrence at 6 mouths the levels remained dropped markedly and approached those in controls.However in the 5 patients with recurrence the levels increased again approaching before operation.Conclusion Serum levels of Hcy,CEA and VEGF might be useful for diagnosis and predicting therapeutic efficacy after operation in patients with esophageal cancer.
