Comparative study between laparoscopy-assisted and open surgery for colon cancer

Objective:To research the therapeutic efficacy of the laparoscopy-assisted and open surgery for colon cancer.Methods:The clinical data of thirty-one cases received laparoscopy-assisted resection(LCR) were compared with that of fifty-two cases received open surgery(OCR):There was no difference in the age,gender and tumor status between the two groups.Results:The operating time was a little longer than the laparoscopy-assisted group(P= 0.452),but the blood loss was less(P= 0.039).Patients who underwent laparoscopic resection had faster recovery of bowel function and shorter hospital stay(P=0.032).No significant differences in the lesion resection and lymph nodes clearance was observed between the 2 groups(P> 0.05).Conclusions:The laparoscopy-assisted resection for colon cancer was a kind of effective and minimally invasive technique that is safe for beginners.It has the advantages of less pain and trauma,faster postoperative recovery,and similar radical effect as open surgery.
