Abstract: | Plasma concentrations of pancuronium were measured using a fluorimetricmethod in six patients with normal renal function and sevenpatients in chronic renal failure. A two-compartment open modelwas used in the pharmacokinetic analysis of the data. With thismodel, the clearance of pancuronium was found to be reducedsignificantly in the patients with renal failure, and in theseindividuals the volume of the central (distribution) compartmentwas increased significantly. The clinical implications of thesefindings are discussed. |
