Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of chitooligosaccharides(COS) and saliva on the adhesive and det achment of Streptococcus mutans.Methods:S.mutans biofilm was formed on saliva coated and uncoated glass slices for 24 h then exposed to COS with different concentrations 2.5、5、10、20、40 g/L with molecular weight as 2 000 respectively for 30 minutes.Live/Dead fluorescent staining and confocal laser scanning microscopy technique were combined to observe the bacterial density,the data of which were conducted with analysis of variance.Results:The bacterial counts on saliva-coated and uncoated groups decreased with the increasing of COS concentration,significant difference was observed compared with the blank control group(P<0.5).The bacterial density on saliva-coated glass slices was more than that of uncoated glass slices after treated with the same concentration of COS,but there was no significantly difference in statistics(P>0.5).Conclusion:Chitooligosaccharides was an antibacterial agent,it can be detaching biofilm effectively.The adhesion of S.mutans may be modulated by saliva,dietary and other factors.
