Abstract:A haemagglutinating virus was isolated from the caecal tonsils of dead collared doves (Streptopelia decaocto). The virus was identified as an avian paramyxovirus showing some antigenic relationships with PMV-7 /dove/Tennessee/4/75 and PMV-?/pigeon/Otaru/76. Of 15 collared doves and 24 feral pigeons trapped and sampled at the site at which dead doves were found, only two pigeons had significant antibody litres to the isolate. The virus was apathogenic for experimentally infected pigeons and chickens and stimulated only a weak antibody response.
