Abstract: | Giant congenital naevi (GCN) are hamartomas of neuroectodermal origin evident from birth. The definition of a GCN has varied, however involvement of 20% of the body surface is usually an accepted qualification. This produces a cosmetic defect and there is a risk of malignant transformation. Curettage of these lesions in the first few weeks after birth provides excellent cosmetic results with minimal scarring. Dermaplaning of the periphery of the lesion either at the primary procedure or at a secondary procedure deals with the other area which is not treated by curettage.
