Pre-hospital first-aid to patients with severe traumatic brain injuries in traffic accident: A report of 985 cases

Objective: To investigate how to gain the time to provide pre-hospital first-aid and measures to the patients with severe brain injuries so as to try to save their lives.Methods: Full uses of rescue equipment on the ambulance was to made in order to take pre-hospital first aid measures to prevent 985 patients from suffering asphyxia,bleeding,shock and cerebral edema as well.Also clinical observation was performed on patients.Results: 68 cases died after the timely and intensive rescues,420 patients survived by taking further operations,340 patients went to the hospital directly to have clinical observations,and 157 patients died due to complications.Conclusion: The timely and effective pre-hospital first-aid can provide conditions of further treatment to the patients with severe head injuries in the traffic accidents and improve the rescue rate significantly.
