中医学术会议汉英同声传译的信息流失与应对策略

同声传译中信息流失是普遍现象。中医学术会议汉英同声传译的难度高于一般主题,更易出现信息流失。以"精力分配模型"为理论指导,发现该情境中源语的特殊性提升了同传译员三项主要工作精力需求,使其听辨源语、短期记忆和译语产出都面临挑战。信息流失风险较高的语段通常含有中医特色语言,如专深理论、密集术语、文言引用等。为缓解工作精力耗损,应采取有针对性的同传策略,译员可通过预测发言内容、专业术语、文言引用等关键信息来降低源语的陌生感并及时组织译语,同时通过合并重复信息、优选最短英译、重组复杂句式等方式在语篇层面实现译语压缩,合理使用预测策略和压缩策略,能有效降低该同传情境中信息流失的风险,提升译语质量。

Loss of Information and Coping Strategies in Chinese-english Simultaneous Interpreting at TCM Academic Conferences

Loss of information, prevalent in simultaneous interpreting, is more likely to occur during Chinese-English SI at traditional Chinese medicine academic conferences. Guided by the "Effort Model", it was found that the particularity of the source speech requires more efforts of the interpreter, who is constantly challenged in listening and analyzing the source speech, short-term memory, and target speech rendering. The information that is most likely to get lost in this context typically carries strong TCM language traits, such as TCM theories, clustered terminologies and quotations from classical Chinese works. To save the efforts during SI, the interpreter must employ SI strategies that are effective in this particular context. By anticipating key information including content, terminologies and quotations, the interpreter can familiarize herself with the information from the source speech and organize target speech more promptly. And compression of the target speech is achieved on the discourse level through merging repeated information, using the shortest translations and paraphrasing complicated sentences. When used properly, the anticipation strategy and the compression strategy help reduce the risk of information loss and optimize the target speech in this SI context.
