Abstract:Administration of phenformin to normal adult controls in a single dose of 200 mg decreased fasting blood sugar and increased the tolerance to acute oral and intravenous glucose loads and to chronic glucose infusion with lower insulin levels, suggesting an effect of the drug on blood glucose independently of its action of the rate of intestinal glucose absorption.
