Estrogen may play an important role in the progression of ovarian cancer,although its effect still remains controversial.Its effect might have something to do with the types of its receptor.Estrogen receptors are functional and foster aggressiveness.A significant association of ER-alpha expression with ovarian cancer grading,progression-free survival,and cause-specific survival was demonstrated.Expression of ER-beta was found to be associated with the metastatic lymph node status.Angiogenesis is the process of developing new blood vessels and is critical in tumor growth,invasion,and metastasis.Estrogen may stimulate angiogenesis via the estrogen receptor pathway,thus affect the progression of ovarian cancer.
