The impact of clinical phase learning on nursing students' basic knowledge and profession attitudes

Objective To explore the impact of clinical phase learning on nursing students＇ basic knowledge and profession attitudes. Methods A convenience sample of 58 undergraduate nursing students in Peking Union Medical College were investigated by using basic nursing knowledge questionnaire and Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument（PSCNI） at different stages. Results The students＇ mean score of basic nursing knowledge was 17.448±2.61,16.000±2.11,13.038±2.62,and 18.000±2.56 respectively from stage 1 to stage 4,and there were significant differences among different stages（F=7.085,P=0.001）. Among 5 items of PSCNI,the scores of leadership dimension,skills dimension and communication dimension improved with the grades（P0.01）,the score of flexibility dimension was unchangeable（P0.05）,and the score of satisfaction dimension decreased with the grades（P0.01）. Conclusion Clinical phase learning has a positive influence in improving nursing students＇ basic knowledge and professional attitudes.
