Abstract:Objective To investigate correlation of systemic lupuserythematosus (SLE) with MHC Ⅰ molecule.Method Radioimmunoassay was used to measure serum and urine beta-2 microglobulin (β2-MG) levels in 41 patients with SLE.Its change before and after treatment was observed and the correlation between β2-MG and other disease activity markers was analysed.Results The levels of serum and urine β2-MG in SLE were (3.0±2.2) and (22.0±38.0) μg/ml,respectively,and were higher than the normal level (P<0.05,P<0.01).After one month treatment,β2-MG levels did not remarkably decrease,however,systemic lupus activity measurement index (SLAM) decreased significantly (P<0.01).Although serum and urine β2-MG in patients with positive anti-DNA antibody was higher than that in negative patients,no significant difference was seen between the two groups.Serum β2-MG level was higher in lupus nephritis than in patients without nephritis.Analysis of correlation indicated that serum β2-MG correlate positively with anti-DNA and SLAM (r=0.279,P<0.01 and r=0.338,P<0.01,respectively).Urine β2-MG level also correlated positively with SLAM (r=0.484,P<0.01).Twenty-four-hour urinary protein excretion did not correlate with serum and urine β2-MG levels.Urine β2-MG level also correlated positively with serum IL-4 and IFN-α (r=0.362,P<0.05 and r=0.453,P<0.01),and negatively with serum IL-8 (r=-0.389,P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of β2-MG of T lymphocytes in SLE is higher than the normal level.Etiology of human lupus correlates with MHC Ⅰ molecules.The decrease of β2-MG is later than that of SLAM and anti-DNA antibody.
