Abstract:Peritonitis is a common problem in patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and represents the most frequent cause of peritoneal catheter loss and discontinuation of CAPD. The incidence of peritonitis remains less than one episode per patient year of treatment. Common bacteria, particularly staphyloccal species, are the usual causative agents. Fungi and higher bacteria such as Nocardia as aetiological agents have been infrequent in patients undergoing CAPD. We report a case of Nocardia nova peritonitis complicated by an intra‐abdominal abscess requiring surgical drainage and a protracted course of antibiotics.
