Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the curative effects of Meilianjing temperature-sensitive gel on a mouse model of vaginitis induced by C. albicans.METHODS The mouse model of vaginitis was induced by C. albicans, and then divided into model group, Shuangzuotai group, Baofukang gel group, and low, medium and high dose of Meilianjing gel groups. Except those in the model group, the mice in the other groups were treated with corresponding drug twice a day for 14 consecutive days. After treatment, the expression levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and NO in serum of mice were measured. Furthermore, the vaginal pathogen conversion rate and vaginal tissue inflammation degree were analyzed to determine the curative effects of Meilianjing gel.RESULTS Compared with the model group, Meilianjing gel could inhibit the growth and reduce the number of colonies of C. albicans in mouse vagina. The edema and inflammation of mouse vagina were also attenuated after treatment, while Meilianjing gel showed little effect of secretion inhibition. Meanwhile, Meilianjing gel had little effect on the liver index and vaginal index, but it could increase the spleen and thymus index. The contents of IL-6 and NO in serum in every drug treatment group were lower than those in the model group (P<0.01). HE staining showed that Meilianjing gel could reduce vaginitis, and PAS staining showed that it could reduce the infection and glycogen reduction of C. albicans.CONCLUSION Meilianjing gel can attenuate the vaginitis by inhibiting the proliferation of C. albicans and reducing the expression of IL-6 and NO in serum of mice.
