Abstract:Objective To explore the willingness to use urine self-collection package for HIV testing and its concerned factors among college freshmen in Guangxi, and to provide a basis and references for further developing urine self-collection for HIV testing in colleges. Methods A cluster random sampling method was used to select college freshmen from colleges A and B in Guangxi. An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted in college A before the health education lectures, while a questionnaire survey was conducted anonymously in college B after the health education lectures. Resultss A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed, and the questionnaire recovery rates of colleges A and B were 88.0% (132/150) and 96.9% (339/350), respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.001). The average awareness rates of basic knowledge of AIDS in freshmen of colleges A and B were 73.7% and 87.7%, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.001). Among the freshmen surveyed, 2.3% (11/471) had been tested for HIV. The willingness rates of using urine self-collection package for HIV testing in freshmen of colleges A and B were 63.6% (84/132) and 88.5% (300/339), respectively, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.001). The willingness rates of using urine self-collection package for HIV testing in the two colleges were slightly higher in male students than in female students, but no statistically significant difference was found (P>0.05). In the survey on the factors hindering the use of urine self-collection package for HIV testing, 54% (47/87) freshmen considered that the operation process was inconvenient, 37.9% (33/87) doubted the accuracy of the results, and 8.1% (7/87) thought that it was easy to be contaminated. In addition, in the survey on factors influencing college freshmen to concern themselves with urine self-collection package for HIV testing, the first concern was confidentiality (85.4%, 402/471), followed by accuracy (72.4%, 341/471). More than half of the freshmen thought that the acceptable price range for urine self-collection package for HIV testing was RMB 100-150 Yuan, and up to 97.0% of the freshmen thought that the time for feedback of testing results could be less than 7 days. Conclusions The college freshmen in Guangxi hold a positive attitude toward urine self-collection package for HIV testing, have a high willingness to use it, and are relatively open to the urine self-collection for HIV testing. The confidentiality and accuracy of urine self-collection package for HIV testing are the two major factors that the freshmen are most concerned about. Holding health education lectures regarding proper introduction and publicity of urine self-collection package for HIV testing in the freshmen can effectively improve their usage intention.
