The significance of variation of prosthrombin activity in early severe chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis B cirrhosis

Objective To assess preliminarily the significance of prosthrombin activity and cholinesterase in patients with early severe chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis B cirrhosis.Methods We retrospectively analysed the prosthrombin activity,cholinesterase and cholesterol levels of some patients admitted in our hospital in recent years.Results there were significant changes in prosthrombin activity and cholinesterase levels in the early severe chronic hepatitis and hepatic B cirrhosis(P<0.01),therefore they were good indicators of the presence of early severe hepatitis.The motality of patients with severe chronic hepatitis when diagnosed in the early stage were significqnt lower than those diagnosed in the letter stages(P<0.01).Conclusion Prosthrombin Activity combined with cholinesterase levels is a sensitive indicator for diagnosing early chronic severe hepatitis.Early diagnosis and treatment of severe chronic hepatitis by means of monitoring prosthrombin activity and cholinesterase levels is the key to reducing the mortality of these patients.
