中学生自我价值感特点分析

A Study of the Characteristic of Middle School Students' Self-worth

Objective:To investigate differences in levels of self-worth in middle school students concerning their sex, status of school, and academic achievement. Methods: A total of 588 students from three different kinds of school (Key, Ordinary and Vocational) were administered the Young People Self-worth Scale, developed by Huang Xiting. Results: Except for the social-oriented aspect of general self-worth (P<0.05),there was no reliable sex difference on other aspects of self-worth between female and male students in the three middle schools. Students in the key middle school showed higher degree of general self-worth than students from the ordinary and vocational schools (P<0.01). Students with better academic achievement showed higher degrees in various aspects of self-worth, when compared to students of poorer achievement. Higher achievers in the key school rated higher degrees of general and social-oriented self-worth than lower achievers in ordinary and vocational schools. On the other hand, the higher achievers in ordinary and vocational schools endorsed demonstrated higher ratings on social-oriented self-worth than lower achievers in the key school.Conclusion: Middle school students only showed small sex difference in degrees of self-worth. Significant differences of self-worth were observed among students with different school backgrounds and levels of academic achievement.
