Taking Cold as an Example to Discuss Channel Transmission in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases

Based on the previous works and modern literature,referring to the clinical practice,this paper explored the concept and mechanism of channel transmission in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases and redefined the concept of channel transmission in Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases. The objective existence of channel transmission is a process from quantitative change to qualitative change. If the struggle between healthy qi and pathogenic qi is limited to the surface of the body,from one channel to the whole body surface,it is only a quantitative process of channel transmission. The symptoms are relatively limited,and most of them are mainly fever,chills and headache,which can last for the whole disease process. It is called pathogen transmission on the exterior,and the disease is in the channels and nutrient and defensive aspects which will heal itself in seven days. If the struggle between healthy qi and pathogenic qi leads to the imbalance of yin and yang and dysfunction of zang-fu organs,it is a qualitative change process of channel transmission,which can lead to more serious diseases. The symptoms are complex and diverse with different visceral diseases,which is called inward transmission of pathogen. Yang exuberance causes channel transmission into fu organs,and yin exuberance causes channel transmission into zang organ. These two processes are affected by the patient's constitution,and can be subdivided into three yin diseases and three yang diseases according to the pathological changes.
