Abstract: | We report a case of peritonitis in a patient on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis caused by Listeria monocytogenes. The patient was taking oral corticosteroids for underlying systemic lupus symptoms, and had classic signs and symptoms of peritonitis. There was initial clinical deterioration while in vitro data indicating that the organism was sensitive to vancomycin with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.5 micrograms/ml. The patient rapidly responded to intravenous ampicillin. We believe this to be the second reported case of L. monocytogenes peritonitis in a CAPD patient. |
