Effect and safety of sitagliptin combined with insulin glargine in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To investigate the effect and safety of sitagliptin combined with insulin glargine in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods Ninety elderly patients with type 2 diabetes admitted in our hospital from October 2018 to October 2019 were selected as the research objects and divided into control group and study group according to the random number table method,with 45 cases in each group.The control group was given insulin glargine,and the study group was given sitagliptin combined with insulin glargine.The general clinical data,blood glucose indexes,blood glucose fluctuation before and after treatment and the incidence of hypoglycemia events of the two groups were compared.Results After treatment,the body weight and BMI in the two groups were lower than those before treatment,and those in the study group were lower than the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of HbA1c,FPG and 2 h PG in the two groups decreased,while the levels of FCP and 2 h CP increased,and those in the study group were better than the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of MBG,MAGE,SDBG and MODD in the two groups were lower than those before treatment,and those in the study group were lower than the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of hypoglycemia events in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Sitagliptin combined with insulin glargine in the treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes can better control blood glucose,improve blood glucose fluctuation,enhance the islet function of patients,and reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia events.
