Abstract:Objective To probe whether metabolic syndrome causes greater damage to the peripheral nerves of a patient with type 2 diabetes and analyze related factors. Methods Selecting 258 patients in accordance with the diagnostic criteria for type 2 diabetes, measuring their blood pressure, weight, waistline, fasting blood-glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein, body mass index, nerve conduction, recording medical history, dividing them into two groups in accordance with the diagnostic criteria for MS:the combine MS group with 145 cases and the non-combine MS group with 113 cases, and contrasting them with 100 healthy people. Results Compared with the non-combine MS group, the differences that the combine MS group had in systolic pressure, body weight, body mass index, waistline, sensory nerve conduction velocity, motor nerve conduction latent period delaying and sensory motor nerve conduction amplitude were statistically significant(P〈0.05). Compared with control group, both combine MS and non-combine MS groups' sensory nerve conduction slowed down, motor nerve conduction latency prolonged and sensory motor nerve conduction amplitudes decreased, so the differences were also statistically significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion Metabolic syndrome causes greater damage to the peripheral nerves of a patient with type 2 diabetes It may be associated with systolic pressure, body weight, body mass index and waistline.
Keywords:Diabetes mellitus  Neural conduction  Metabolic syndrome  Diabetic peripheralneuropath
