Open appendectomy in acute appendicitis of pregnancy

Objective To detect the opportunity of open appendectomy(OA) in acute appendicitis of pregnant women. Methods Retrospective study was used,86 patients who underwent OA were involved in emergency operation group and delay operation group.Patients’ demographic data,preoperative laboratory and physical values,histopathologic diagnosis of removed appendix,mean operating time,length of hospitalization,and complications were reviewed.Results Acute appendicitis was confirmed in 91% of patients.The groups were similar demographically(mean age and gestational age).In emergency operation group,the duration of operation and hospitalization were shorter(P<0.05).Less operative costs and fewer complocations(P<0.05).There were no statistical difference in prematurity and abortion(P<0.05).Conclusion The emergency operation should be done in pregnancy woman.
