Evaluation on the effect of comprehensive schistosomiasis control measures in Yangzhong city, Jiangsu province

Objective To evaluate on the efibct of comprehensive schistosomiasis control measures. Methods The data of schistosomiasis prevention and control were collected from 2001 to 2008, and the changes of prevalence situation （including snail distribution and infection of people） and economic benefit were analyzed. Results After carrying oLLt comprehensive schistosomiasis measures, the snail areas reduced from 68.23hm2 to 0 hm2, the infected snail areas reduced from 48.03 hin2 to 0 hin2, the positive rate of people with immunological examination declined from 1.56% to 0.73%, and the infection rate of people was 0. The project could produce about one million benefit yearly by increasing 52 hm2 of aquaculture areas, 0.35 hm2 of arable land areas and 1,000 poultry birds. Conclusion The comprehensive schistosonfiasis control measures not only can eliminate snails, but also can produce econonfic and social benefit. It plays an important role on snail control.
