Study on the timing of preoperative fasting and drinking on patients undergoing painless enteroscopic bowel polypectomy

Objective To explore the effect of timing of preoperative fasting and drinking on the tolerance and safety of patients undergoing elective painless colonoscopic bowel polypectomy.Methods A prospective study was conducted on 210 patients who underwent elective indolent enteroscopic intestinal polypectomy in a hospital from May 2020 to April 2021.According to the random number table method,there were 105 cases in control group and 105 cases in observation group.Patients in control group fasted for 8~12 h and drinking-unallowed for 4 h before operation.Patients in observation group were fasted on solid food for 6 h and clear liquid for 2 h before operation.To compare gastric fluid volume,PH value of gastric fluid,blood glucose level,K⁺and Na⁺level,incidence of subjective discomfort,time of first anal exhaust and complications between two groups.Results There was no significant difference in gastric juice volume and PH value between two groups(P>0.05).At 1 h before operation,1 h after operation and 1 d after operation,the blood glucose and serum K⁺level in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in serum Na⁺level between two groups(P>0.05).The incidence of subjective discomfort in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group(P<0.05).The time of first anal exhaust in observation group was shorter than that in control group(P<0.05).There were no serious complications in both group,such as aspirations.Conclusion Shorten the time of preoperative fasting and drinking-unallowed is feasible and safe in elective indolent enteroscopic intestinal polypectomy,which can significantly improve patients'subjective feelings,blood glucose level and electrolyte disorder,so as to reduce the recovery time of intestinal sounds.
