Facilitating a National System of Training in New Zealand
Authors:Patricia O'Brien  Deborah Espiner  Frances Hartnett
Abstract:The structure of a three tiered system of training for human service workers within New Zealand is described as well as the teaching and facilitation methods used to deliver the content of the courses within a tertiary training environment. Underlying the training courses are the three themes of: the creation of valued lifestyles for people with disabilities; a commitment to biculturalism; and the development of effective communication skills. The three levels of training include a certificate, diploma and degree in Human Services. A range of facilitation techniques is illustrated within the context of one elective course.
