Study on the effect of 3M glass ion-protective film combined with GC tooth protector in preventing enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients

Objective To observe the effect of 3M glass ion-protective film combined with GC tooth protector in preventing enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients.Methods A total of 76 patients(685 teeth)undergoing orthodontic treatment were divided into control group(38 cases,327 teeth)and observation group(38 cases,358 teeth)according to the random numerical table.Both groups received daily routine oral care.The control group was given GC tooth protector,and the observation group was given a 3M glass ionprotective film on the basis of the control group.The enamel demineralization index before and after orthodontic treatment and the enamel demineralization after 6 months of orthodontic treatment were compared between the two groups.Results Before orthodontic treatment,there was no statistically significant difference in enamel demineralization index between the two groups(t=0.840,P>0.05).After 6 and 12 months of orthodontics,the enamel demineralization index of the two groups was higher than that of this group before orthodontic treatment;the enamel demineralization index of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group;all the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After 6 months of orthodontic treatment,the number of demineralized teeth in the observation group was 25,with a demineralization rate of 6.98%(25/358),with the majority of those with degree 1,accounting for 4.75%(17/358).The number of demineralized teeth in the control group was 43,with a demineralization rate of 13.15%(43/327),with the majority of those with degree 2,accounting for 6.12%(20/327).The demineralization rate in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(χ²=7.268,P<0.05).Conclusion 3M glass ion-protective film combined with GC tooth protector can effectively prevent the occurrence of enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients,which is worth popularizing.
